About

Hello, and Welcome!

My name is Wen Young, and I want to share a piece of my world with you. I was born and raised in Fujian, a beautiful coastal province in southeastern China. For people from my hometown, tea isn’t just a popular beverage—it’s the rhythm of our lives, the cornerstone of our hospitality, and a heritage we carry with pride.

Some of my earliest and fondest memories are woven with the scent of tea. I remember the gentle clinking of the gaiwan as my grandfather prepared the morning brew, the rich, floral aroma of Tie Guan Yin filling our home, and the warmth of a tiny cup shared among family after a long day. In Fujian, offering someone a cup of tea is more than just a courtesy; it’s an invitation to slow down, connect, and share a moment of peace. This daily ritual, known as Gongfu Cha, wasn’t a formal ceremony for us, but the simple, mindful way we showed respect for the leaves, the water, and each other.

Growing up here, I was surrounded by the very mountains that gave birth to oolong, black, and white teas. The history that experts write about in books was, for me, the living culture I saw every day. I learned that the best teas tell a story—of the soil they grew in, the season they were picked, and the careful hands that crafted them.

Why I Started This Blog

As I started exploring the world of tea beyond my home, I realized that while many people appreciate Chinese tea, the deep cultural context and personal stories behind it are often lost in translation. The focus can be on complex tasting notes and exotic names, but the soul of the tea—the feeling of community, the philosophy of mindfulness, the simple joy of a shared pot—is what truly matters.

Through this blog, I want to take you beyond the surface. I want to share with you the China I know and love, through the lens of its most cherished drink. We’ll explore famous teas, of course, but we’ll also talk about the people who make them, the traditions that preserve them, and the simple ways you can bring the beautiful art of Chinese tea into your own life.

My hope is that this space becomes more than just a source of information. I want it to be an invitation—to brew a cup with me, to ask questions, and to discover the rich, welcoming, and deeply personal world of Chinese tea culture.

Thank you for being here. Let’s share a cup together.🙏🏼
